Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are plants or animals whose genetic material has been altered through genetic engineering techniques. While there is ongoing debate as to the pros, there are certainly enough cons to make you stop and think...
1️⃣ Allergenicity: Genetic modifications can introduce new proteins into GMOs, which may trigger new allergies.
2️⃣ Environmental Concerns: GMO crops are often engineered to resist pests or herbicides. This can lead to the overuse of certain chemicals, harming beneficial insects, soil health, and potentially impacting human and animal ecosystems.
3️⃣ Antibiotic Resistance: Some GMOs are designed to contain antibiotic resistance genes, which could potentially transfer to bacteria in our bodies and contribute to antibiotic resistance, limiting our ability to fight infections.
4️⃣ Lack of Long-Term Studies: Critics argue that there is inadequate research on the long-term health effects of GMO consumption, leading to concerns about potential unknown risks.
5️⃣ Corporate Control: Most genetic modifications are considered protected property. The corporate conglomerates who create them, own them and control when and how it's used and do NOT have to share the details.
Be careful what you put into or on your body. You only get one!
